Andrea completed a Master’s degree in mass communication research and a certificate in interdisciplinary health communication in May 2011. Prior to her graduate studies, she worked in communications for several public health and educational organizations, including Ipas and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Influenced by her background in graphic design, Andrea’s research focused on the use of images for health communication. Her thesis examined how low-literate women from Lusaka, Zambia interpreted an image-based health information booklet. She has presented research at the CDC’s National Conference on Health Communication, Marketing and Media and the Kentucky Conference on Health Communication. Her case study, “Just a ding? The NFL responds to research on football-related concussion,” won the grand prize in the 2011 Arthur W. Page Society Corporate Communications Case Study Competition.
After completing her MA, Andrea joined the Maternal Health Task Force at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she led the communications and knowledge management team. Andrea is currently a consultant with the health communication group at John Snow, Inc. in Boston, MA.
